I also want to share a story on the flipside.
This happened at DrupalCon New Orleans in 2016. I was having a great conference and meeting people and having a great time all around. It was my third DrupalCon and I thought that I wouldn't get the same reaction of meeting for the first time from everyone. I was wrong. I was greeted like an old friend and made to feel every bit as welcome and comfortable as possible.
Then, on the second (or third) afternoon, I was pulled away by some members of the CWG and Drupal Association who wanted to discuss something important. I was a little apprehensive about it. It turned out that someone was posting hate speech and mocking me and my faith on Twitter. It wasn't just me either. This person had attacked other speakers and attendees as well. The CWG found out who this person was and removed them from the conference.
Now, I am not a stranger to these things. This had happened to me earlier and I had just blocked the person, which is why I didn't even know that someone was attacking me on Twitter on that particular day. I didn't know even know about it and the CWG had already taken action on the complaint and made the conference a safe space for myself and for other people. I was even more prouder of the community of which I was a part.
